WHY DISSOLVE THE WASHINGTON FIELDS HOA?

This is my first blog about dissolving the Washington Fields HOA.  There are many, many reasons to dissolve the HOA.  I served on the HOA board as a volunteer for 18 months here.  During that time I learned a great deal about the HOA structure, bylaws, fees, enforcement and lastly I learned that it can be dissolved.  In my next few blogs I'll be sharing this information as well as public information (ie) zoning laws.  You may find that you may reach the same conclusion as me that this HOA is not needed.

Before my next blog, here is a bit of my HOA history and experience moving into Washington Fields.  I lived in the Salt Lake City area of Utah for 63 years.  I and my family lived in a very nice neighborhood that was not an HOA.  People in the neighborhood took care of their homes, yards and took care of each other as good neighbors.

Before retirement we considered moving elsewhere and one of the issues we frequently found was Home Owner Associations (HOA).  I had heard unfavorable things about HOAs before and we decided without question not to move to an HOA home.  This was the number 1 item on our list of factors to consider as we searched for a home.  We found a realtor who worked well with us and we found a home that met all of our criteria.  It was not advertised as an HOA home.  Typically, HOA homes list the HOA fee and a written explanation is given as to what the fee covers.  The HOA homes are typically very evident in the sale description to be part of an HOA.

After much effort, we decided on the home we would buy and we found a buyer for our previous home.  The day of the sale came and it was time to sign papers.  At this point we completed the papers to sell our home and the papers for our new home.  We did this while we were still in Salt Lake City and it was done via phone and fax.

When we received the final paper work, down at the bottom of the page was a very small box indicating HOA fee.???   What!!!???  Obviously some type of clerical error had been made!  So I pointed this our to the realtor in Salt Lake City who then contacted our realtor in St George, who in turn contacted the other realtor for those who were selling the house.  The explanation was given that indeed this was not an HOA but a Washington city community park fee.
